“WORK IN PROGRESS”

Last week the artists Rone, Meggs & Beastman travelled to Hong Kong to take part in the ‘Work in Progress’ art project in Taikoo Place, Island East, HK. Curated by Hong Kong gallery Above Second, ’Work in Progress’ is a three-week exhibition which transforms the loading bay and entire 13th floor of a now defunct office space into one of the biggest street art exhibitions ever to be presented in Asia, which aims to change the perspective of individuals about the artistic credibility of street art. Featuring artists from around the world, including Beastman, Cyrcle, Meggs, RONE, VHILS, Victor Ash, as well as local artists like Xeme, Mark Goss, 4Get, Pantone C, Peter Yuill, all brought together by Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation (YAF).

Miss Aniela is a fine-art/commercial photographer based out of London with a very unique and surreal approach to fashion by blending animals and portrait paintings within her environments. She has been exhibited internationally in Europe and the US, with representation in Madrid, LA, and San Diego.

Kim Rosen studied advertising design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and worked as a graphic designer for several years before realizing that she was meant to be an illustrator. After receiving and MFA in Illustration from the Savannah college of Art and Design, Kim has been busy working as a freelance illustrator. Kim lives in Northampton, Massachusetts in her 110 year old house. She has worked for Billabong, The New Yorker, Starbucks, Scholastic, NUVO, MTV.ca and more.

So Youn Lee’s Hallucinatory Paintings

So Youn Lee creates candy-colored paintings filled with psychedelia. The female protagonists appear wide-eyed and bewildered, wandering through a haze of confectionary shapes and colors. Some of the abstract formations form plant-like arrangements, but it is unclear whether these otherworldly forests are figments of the characters’ imaginations.

Whether the figures are carried towards the sky or just holding on to umbrellas, sailing downward is up to the viewer to decide. ‘Slight Uncertainty’ the installation by Czech artist Michal Trpák is called and the viewer can’t be quite be sure of what is happening here. Trpák installs his sculptures almost exclusively in public places. ‘Slight Uncertainty’ for example is located in an office building in Prague. He recons that sculptures and art should be increasingly displayed in public places where many people move around, come and go. His goal is to create a dialogue between public life, the surrounding architecture and sculptures. ‘This is the dialog I am trying to get with my art, dialogue among my art, architecture and people. And if the people are talking about the installation and if it somehow affects them it means that it is good.’

Audrey Kawasaki’s New Wood Panel Paintings

We share with you this morning Audrey Kawasaki’s latest work. These pieces are currently showcased in a mini-solo exhibition at SCOPE Basel Art Fair in Switzerland. Audrey uses oil and graphite to paint on wood panel for her gorgeous new pieces. The Japanese artist only seems to be getting more and more popular. Truly, her art never disappoints.
